The People Behind Our Daily Life
A truth about everyday life we skip past
Hey, my friend,
I have been resting these past few days and trying to get my strength back.
Today, I stepped out to the balcony for some fresh air because I was feeling a bit low and tired of just lying in bed.
I stood there for a few minutes, just looking outside, and my eyes went to the construction site across the road.
The workers were up on the floors, passing bricks to each other and moving slowly. They looked worn out.
At one point, one worker put down the load and sat for a short break with his head down, trying to catch his breath.
I just watched him for a while, and a thought came to my mind.
These workers spend their days building homes where other families will live in peace and comfort.
They put in long hours with so much effort.
But many of them do not have a home like that for themselves.
When the workday ends, they go back to very small rooms behind the site, with hardly any space or comfort.
I do not know why I never thought about it this way before.
But standing there, I began to notice how many things I use every day without thinking about the people behind them.
The house I am recovering in, the roads I walk on, someone worked hard so I could have all of this.
And I have never even looked them in the eye or learned their name.
That does not feel right for some reason, my friend.
I am not trying to preach or show I’m really rooted, kind, or anything.
I am aware that the world works on a trade-based system, and we cannot personally solve everything.
People work, they get paid, and that is how life moves.
Still, watching them made me wonder if we have slowly stopped seeing the people right in front of us.
We notice the work, but we often forget the person behind the work.
So from now on, when I meet someone who helps make life a little easier for me, I’ll thank them.
Also, ask their name, and do not rush past like they do not exist. I feel like that is at least something I can do.
Would you try that with me, my friend? Or you’re already doing it?
Please hit reply and let me know. I would love to hear from you.
Wishing you a wonderful, joyous, and peaceful day ahead.
That is it for today, and see you tomorrow.
Take care,
Prasad Mairale
