The 911 Call About Groceries
Clarence asked for food, and the answer was better than he hoped.
Hey, my friend,
Today’s story is about an eighty-one-year-old man named Clarence Blackmon.
Clarence had just returned home after spending time in the hospital.
He was weak from his battle with cancer, and when he opened his refrigerator, he saw that it was completely empty.
There was nothing to eat, and he didn’t have the strength to go out and buy food.
Not knowing what else to do, Clarence picked up the phone and dialed 911.
On the other end was Marilyn Hinson, a 911 operator who expected emergencies of a very different kind.
Instead, she heard Clarence explain that he had nothing to eat and nowhere to turn.
Marilyn could have treated the call as a misunderstanding, but she didn’t.
With her supervisor’s approval, she went out and bought groceries for Clarence herself.
She then delivered them to his home, made him a meal that included sandwiches, and sat with him for a while.
For Clarence, it was more than just food on the table.
It was the comfort of knowing that someone cared enough to show up when he needed it most.
So let us keep this in the back of our minds as we go through the week.
If we notice someone who could use a little help, let’s go ahead and do it.
Even if it is as ordinary as checking in or sharing a meal, let’s not hold back to help, as it can mean much more to someone than we might expect.
Wishing you a day full of kindness and good moments, my friend.
That is it for today, and see you tomorrow.
Take care,
Prasad Mairale
