Thankful Friendships

How a tragedy led to a beautiful bond.

Hey, my friend,

Today, I want to share a simple yet powerful story of how gratitude can bloom in the most unexpected places.

Back in 2015, a massive earthquake shook Nepal. Thousands lost their lives, and homes turned to rubble.

In the middle of all this devastation, two young girls, Nirmala and Khendo, were strangers who found themselves in the same hospital, each having lost a leg during the disaster.

But here’s where it gets beautiful.

They were placed in the same bed at a hospital in Kathmandu, and what began as shared pain turned into shared strength.

These girls leaned on each other, emotionally and literally, as they healed, laughed, and faced life on prosthetic legs together. Over time, they became best friends, even attending the same boarding school.

Today, they’ve just finished their national high school exams. Nirmala dreams of being a singer someday, and Khendo is thinking about pursuing science.

Life may have shaken them, but look at how far they’ve come, with gratitude, grit, and a little bit of each other.

And maybe that’s what life is really about, not waiting for perfect moments, but finding something to be thankful for even when everything feels broken.

So, my friend, let’s take a moment today to be thankful for the people who always stood beside you in tough times.

It might be a friend, a relative, a stranger, or maybe it is you.

Give them a call or text to let them know that you’re thankful and grateful for their existence.

I’m sure it will make their day and yours as well.

Thank you for reading. See you tomorrow, my friend.

Take care,
Prasad Mairale
