Not Ready For Monday?
Me too. But here's what helped.
Hey, my friend,
I woke up late this morning because I forgot to charge my phone, so my alarm didn’t go off.
I quickly brushed my teeth while trying to reply to a message. And while trying to do it, I got toothpaste on my t-shirt.
I had to change clothes twice before I finally felt ready. Somehow, I made it to my desk, but honestly, I had no idea where to start.
When I opened my Google calendar, I saw there was a Zoom meeting in just 12 minutes. I hadn’t read the notes or prepared anything.
And my brain felt like a web browser with too many tabs open and no idea which one to click on.
So, instead of trying to force myself to work, I stood up and walked to the kitchen. I peeled a banana slowly, noticing the little cracks in the peel and the way it curled back.
The banana was soft and sweet, but not too ripe, just right.
I took a bite and, for a moment, kind of zoned out while really tasting it.
The quiet around me made it easier to focus on that one small thing that is the texture, the flavor, the simple act of eating that banana.
I didn’t check my phone or think about work, but just stood there, letting the world slow down for a minute.
And, the quiet made my mind a little less noisy. I know, it wasn’t a big fix, but it was enough to give me a little space to breathe.
After that, I went back to my desk feeling a little calmer and a little more ready than before to take the day step by step.
You might be thinking:
“Yeah!! Good to hear that, Prasad. But why did you tell me this story?”
Well, to let you know that, sometimes, the little things we do to care for ourselves, even if it’s just eating a banana slowly, can help us find peace when everything feels too much.
So, if you’re feeling too overwhelmed this morning, try to find one small thing, anything simple, to slow down and breathe.
It might be all you need to get started for a messy day.
Thank you for reading and have a wonderful day ahead, my friend.
Take care,
Prasad Mairale
