From Pen Pals to Lifelong Friends
One story of friendship that grew stronger with time.
Hey, my friend,
I want to share a story that will make you smile and feel the power of friendship.
This is about two women named Debbie and Jane. They first met as pen pals when they were just eleven years old.
Debbie lived in New Jersey in the United States, and Jane lived in Sittingbourne, England.
They became friends because of a television show called Big Blue Marble.
The show wanted children from different countries to write to each other and share their lives.
Debbie and Jane wrote letters to each other for many years.
They shared stories about school, their families, and the small adventures of everyday life.
Sometimes Debbie would send pictures of her friends and pets. Jane would send little notes about her day and the things she loved in England.
They grew up together and experienced big life changes, like raising children, going through divorces, and moving to new places, through their letters.
Even though they were far apart, the letters and later emails kept their friendship alive.
After fifty-one years, Debbie finally flew to England to meet Jane in person.
When they saw each other, they hugged and laughed as if no time had passed.
Debbie brought a stack of old letters that she had saved for decades, and even a t-shirt from their childhood that reminded them of their early friendship.
They spent the day talking about their lives, remembering the old stories, and feeling grateful for a friendship that never ended.
Their joy was easy to see, and the love they had for each other filled the room.
My friend, this story shows that when we care and stay in touch, friendships can last a lifetime.
It tells us that even small gestures, like writing a note or a letter, can grow into something wonderful.
So, as you’re reading this, think about someone in your life you have not spoken to in a while, send them a message, give them a call, or write them a note.
That small gesture of yours might start a friendship that lasts as long as Debbie and Jane’s.
Or it might make someone’s day and make them feel seen in some way.
I hope you’ll do that, my friend.
Wishing you a joyful and wonderful day ahead.
That is it for today, and see you tomorrow.
Take care,
Prasad Mairale
