Do This, Not Everything
Why finishing one thing is all it takes to feel on top of your day.
Hey, my friend,
You know that feeling when the day turns into a juggling act?
One task here, another half-started there, and a reminder buzzing in the background.
You’re busy working, but somehow nothing really feels complete at the end of the day.
I know it feels exhausting to keep switching gears and still end the day wondering what actually got done.
The reason this happens is not because you are lazy or incapable, my friend.
It happens because the brain is constantly chasing the small hit of reward that comes with starting something new.
Every time you jump to another task, there’s a quick sense of novelty that feels easier than sticking with what you've already begun.
And that’s also the reason why focusing on and finishing just one task feels so hard.
Every notification, new email, or half-finished idea offers a quick spark that feels more appealing than sticking with the task already in front of you.
That momentary excitement pulls your attention away, leaving a stack of unfinished work.
And, even though you know that completing a single thing would leave the day more under control, you just can’t seem to do it.
So, what to do?
Well, you can first complete a task that has been lingering for a long time and won’t take much of your time.
Doing it gives you a little sense of progress that makes the rest of the day feel less messy, even if a bunch of other things are still waiting.
And, once that first task is off your plate, your mind feels less cluttered and ready to take on and finish another one.
So, if you’ve been feeling stuck or overwhelmed, start with just one small task and actually finish it.
That one finished task can shift the whole day, making the next thing feel easier and the rest of your to-do list feel lighter, my friend.
Wishing you a wonderful, blessed, and productive day ahead.
That is it for today, and see you tomorrow.
Take care,
Prasad Mairale
