Are You Holding Onto Something You Can’t Change?

One story that shows how letting go can help.

Hey, my friend,

I’m 5 feet 2 inches tall and 22 years old. Growing up, I was almost always the shortest person in the room.

I didn’t really care about it at first, but everything changed when I hit puberty.

By sixth grade, everyone around me started growing fast, while I still looked like a fourth grader.

For the first time, I noticed the difference, and so did everyone else.

I got teased, bullied, and even given random advice on how to grow taller. It made me feel insecure, and I started trying everything I could think of to grow tall.

I grew a little, my friends grew a little, and the difference stayed the same. The teasing continued, and my quest to get taller never really ended.

Later, I decided to look into the science of height.

That’s when I realized that genetics plays the biggest role, and height is mostly out of our control.

Logically, I knew I shouldn’t feel bad about it. Emotionally, though, it was different.

Even knowing this, I still kept hoping for a way to grow taller.

Then I met someone in junior college who was my height. People mocked him, too, but he never let it bother him.

Curious, I asked him how he handled it.

He said, “Sometimes it does bother me, but I just don’t show it. I used to feel bad about being short, and I still do sometimes, but there’s no point in dwelling on something I cannot change.

If it bothers me, I tell myself, ‘Yes, I’m short. So what?’ It helps me cope.”

Hearing that changed the way I looked at things.

I started doing the same, and over time, I stopped letting my height affect my confidence. And, now I accept it fully and embrace it openly.

Just like me, if you ever feel insecure about something in your life that you cannot change, try being gentle with yourself, my friend.

Accept it as part of who you are and let it be without letting it weigh you down. Say to yourself, “Yes, this is who I am, and that’s okay.”

Doing so lifts the weight of worry and self-doubt. It helps you feel more confident, at ease, and ready to enjoy life just as you are.

I hope you’ll keep this in mind.

That is it for today, and see you tomorrow.

Take care,
